Moon Moonshine is made with non-GMO Kentucky Proud corn grown within 100 miles of Barrel House Distillery on the Elkhorn Creek where our moonshine is proudly made in Lexington, Kentucky. White corn is stone ground down the road in Midway, Kentucky at the oldest continuously operating mill in Kentucky, Weisenberger Mill, which opened in 1865, using a traditional water-powered mill. Walking into Weisenberger Mill is like walking into a time capsule,” says the sixth generation of Weisenberger millers Phillip Weisenberger, “How we did it—how we do it—is what makes it special.”

The folks at Weisenberger don’t jump on trends, and many of their manufacturing processes have been in use since the early 1900s. Instead, they focus on consistently doing what they do best: delivering local corn with an unmatched depth of taste. This gives Moon Moonshine its unparalleled smooth taste. The belt-driven power system and steel roller mills have been in operation for over a century. The state-of-the-art hydroelectric power generation now used to mill is where new meets old; the mill generates much of its power from nearby Elkhorn Creek.
The locally raised, super fresh and consistently tasty corn links the drinker to this place and time - and brings Kentucky to the bottle. Most grains at Weisenberger go out the doors to customers within a week of processing. The mill has long-standing relationships with several farmers. Weisenberger’s yellow corn is grown by Henton Farm in Woodford County. Rogers Farm in Hardin County has supplied all of its white corn for more than 30 years.
The mill’s decision to procure non-GMO corn is aided by the bourbon industry, a major local purchaser of corn. Kentucky distillers insist on non-GMO and Moon Moonshine is no exception.
And to give you an idea of how close the corn is grown, to where it’s milled, and then made into our fine moonshine, the Elkhorn Creek - that same water source - runs aside Barrel House Distilling Company about 15 miles away.
The historic Weisenberger building is just off the Old Frankfort Pike National Scenic Byway near Midway, Kentucky.
The Weisenberger brand can be summed up this way , “Leave a good taste in the customer’s mouth,” the first Mr. Weisenberger used to say in 1865. He meant it two ways—the good taste of a quality, flavorful product, and the good taste of dealing with a fair and honest business.” Just like grandfather said generations ago.
